Privacy Policy

Overview

DeadlineCatcher ("we", "our", "us") is a Chrome extension that scans Gmail for deadline-related emails. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we access, use, store, and share your data, including Google user data.

Google User Data Accessed

DeadlineCatcher accesses the following Google user data:

  • Gmail email content: The extension reads the subject line and body of emails displayed in your Gmail inbox to detect deadline-related information (dates, due dates, renewal notices). This processing happens entirely within your browser. Email content is never transmitted to any external server.
  • Google Calendar (calendar.events scope): When you explicitly click "Add to Calendar" on a tracked deadline, the extension creates a single calendar event with the deadline date and details. The extension does not read, list, modify, or delete any existing calendar events.

How Google User Data Is Used

Google user data is used strictly for the following purposes:

  • Email content is scanned locally in your browser to identify deadlines, due dates, renewal notices, and other time-sensitive information. This data is processed in real-time and is not stored beyond what you explicitly choose to track as a deadline.
  • Google Calendar access is used solely to create calendar events for deadlines you choose to add to your calendar. This action is always initiated by you and requires your explicit consent via the Google OAuth consent screen.

DeadlineCatcher does not use Google user data for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to the core functionality of deadline tracking. DeadlineCatcher does not use Google user data to train AI or machine learning models.

Data Sharing

We do not share Google user data with any third parties. Specifically:

  • Email content is never transmitted outside your browser.
  • Tracked deadline data (titles, dates) is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API and is never sent to our servers or any third-party service.
  • Google Calendar event creation is a direct API call from your browser to Google's servers using your authenticated credentials. We do not proxy or intercept this data.
  • We do not sell, rent, or lease any user data to third parties.

Data Storage & Protection

DeadlineCatcher stores the following data locally in your browser:

  • Tracked deadlines: Deadline title, due date, type, and reminder preferences are stored using Chrome's chrome.storage.sync API. This data syncs across your Chrome browsers when you are signed into Chrome, and is protected by your Google account credentials.
  • Extension preferences: Settings such as banner visibility and license status are stored locally using Chrome's storage API.
  • License key: If you purchase Pro, your license key is stored locally in Chrome storage.

No user data is stored on our servers. All data remains in your browser and under your control. Since data is stored locally, it is protected by your device's security and your Google account authentication.

Data Retention & Deletion

Email content: Email content is processed in real-time in your browser and is not retained. Once the extension finishes scanning an email, the content is discarded from memory.

Tracked deadlines: Deadline data is stored locally until you delete it. You can delete individual deadlines at any time from the extension's dashboard.

Complete data deletion: To delete all DeadlineCatcher data, you can:

  • Uninstall the extension from Chrome (this removes all stored data)
  • Clear extension data via Chrome Settings > Extensions > DeadlineCatcher > Details > Clear Data
  • Contact us at support@deadlinecatcher.com to request assistance with data deletion

Google Calendar events: Calendar events created by the extension remain in your Google Calendar until you delete them manually. DeadlineCatcher does not have the ability to delete calendar events.

Revoking access: You can revoke DeadlineCatcher's access to your Google Calendar at any time by visiting Google Account Permissions and removing DeadlineCatcher.

Third-Party Services

DeadlineCatcher interacts with the following third-party services:

  • Google Calendar API: Used to create calendar events for tracked deadlines, only when you explicitly request it. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Stripe: Used to process Pro license payments. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. We do not store your payment information.

Google API Services User Data Policy Compliance

DeadlineCatcher's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
